Town Hall Saturday, 8/16: Just Cause Employment in the City of Ithaca

Join us this Saturday, August 16th @ 11:30 am. in the Tompkins County Public Library’s Borg-Warner East Room for our second community Town Hall on Just Cause Employment.

The Tompkins County Workers’ Center (TCWC) started its Workers Rights Hotline in May of 2003, just six months into the beginning of our founding as an organization. We have had slightly over 6000 cases with our Workers Rights Hotline, one of very few in the country since its inception. The number one reason people contact our Hotline is that they feel as if they have been unfairly terminated. 26% of the people, a bit over 1500 people, contacting us is that they feel as if they have been unfairly terminated. For workers working WITHIN the City of Ithaca, over 600 workers have felt they have been unfairly terminated. This is about 30 workers per year just within the City.

Momentum has been building for our campaign for Just Cause Employment protections in Ithaca! Come join us to learn about what these protections would mean for working people in our community and hear from Ward 1 Alderperson Kayla Matos, local labor leaders, and a representative from Cornell’s ILR school about our efforts to enact Just Cause locally.
