Tuesday, 8/6: Local Law Proposed to Tompkins County Legislature on a Higher Minimum Wage
This coming Tuesday, August 6th, beginning at 5:30 p.m., the full Tompkins County Legislature will begin discussion about the possibility of creating a local law that if passed, would begin to create a higher minimum wage than the $15/hour minimum wage presently in effect for all of upstate New York. If you support this move, please consider the following options:
- Come to the Legislature meeting in person (located at 121 E. Court Street, back door, and on 2nd floor), fill out a blue slip indicating interest in speaking and make Public Comment during Privilege of the Floor by the Public (speakers get up to 3 minutes);
- If you’re not able to make it in person, you can make a request to speak on Zoom during Privilege of the Floor by the Public by emailing Legislature@tompkins-co.org at least 24 hours in advance. Once you have submitted your request you will be sent a zoom link to the meeting, this invite SHOULD NOT be shared or forwarded;
- If you’re interested in making Public Comment to be read at the Legislature meeting, you may do so via email, go here by Monday, August 5th at 5 p.m.
We are looking for workers as well as community members and supportive employers to come out and speak, or otherwise register your feelings on the matter! Feel free to respond to this email if you think you can come or otherwise have any questions.
